I enjoy aspects of every quilt I make, but some quilt journeys are more personally fulfilling than others.  Making this quilt was an exquisite experience.  For me, as the quilt evolved, it just got better and better.  The end result embodies the magic of a vague idea, a hoped-for association made tangible in the best kind of way.

In the finished setting, the background prints spill out from the blocks to fill the spaces between.  The improv required to create this effect is a type of patchwork I relish.  The finished quilt is exuberantly floral, more delightful than I could have ever sketched or pre-imagined.  How lucky that our giant camilia bush is blooming at this very moment!  I love how its blooming beauty fills the space around the quilt in these photographs.

You can see the climbing rose meander more clearly from the back.  I'm glad I pushed myself to try a new free motion quilting style.  It's just right!
