diamonds + squares for Penny Sampler

You'd think I'd be tired of paper piecing, six-months into my Facing East Journey and all, but apparently not.  Instead I was somewhat surprised to enjoy paper piecing the simple Penny Squares and Small Diamonds assigned this May.  The shapes are nothing special, but still it's satisfying to churn out one almost-effortless geometric after another.  And when they're all finished, they join together in a delightful, repeating precision.

After finishing my May Penny Sampler blocks, I began joining blocks here and there a la May's Assembly Part 1.  So, so, soooo exciting to actually start seeing it come together!  My sections will look different than yours, if your sewing along, since I shuffled many of my 6" blocks.  Apologies for any confusion!  When in doubt, believe the coursebook!

I think I'm going to mentally tuck away my Penny Sampler for a week and then finish the quilt top the first week of June.  It's tempting to just plow ahead now, but I do like the feeling of sewing along together.

Whether you're sewing the 6 month of 12 month sampler, I'd love to see your progress!  Please add your images to our link party.  If the links aren't showing below, Click Here to go directly to the link party page to browse and add your own!

Happy weekend, all.

p.s.  Look who's scooting off her play quilt these days.  How much longer until she discovers the fun of taking mama's blocks off the design wall?  Oh, the joy of it all!
