June in Quilter's Color Quest

This month in Quilter’s Color Quest we’re exploring exercises eight and nine in The Quilter’s Field Guide to Color: A Hands-on Workbook for Mastering Fabric Selection. I’ve already shared my work for Context. Neutrals is coming later this week. Let’s take a moment to see what you’ve been up to!

Jennie at Clover + Violet discovered how value can help her add depth to her go-to color scheme. Read her blog post from the book blog hop for the full story!

The Value challenge creates helpful blocks if you’re planning on a rainbow blend layout. Here are some examples from our community:

Lucy of Charm About You started us off during the book hop with a look-see at her fabric-selection process for this block. Based on the Context patchwork challenge, she found fabrics to pair with a print that she likes but hadn’t yet used in a project.

Balance Your Stash

Each month during Quilter’s Color Quest, I will create a custom bundle with one of my fantastic sponsor shops. Here’s the idea - as you get to know color better, you often realize that your stash could use some balancing. Do you enjoy my eye for color or fabrics? Cool! Then, these bundles are a convenient and inspiring way of filling those holes in your stash.

Aaaaaand, each month the 16-piece, fat quarter custom bundle also serves as the prize for one lucky participant in Quilter’s Color Quest. Each photo you post to Instagram with #QuiltersColorQuest enters you to win the monthly giveaway. So, go out there and do the work! There are lots of good reasons to enjoy this process together.

For June I’ve created two 8-piece fabric bundles - Dark Value Neutrals and Love Value Neutrals - available now at Winter Creek Cloth.

Though neutrals aren’t as flashy as colors, they’re absolutely vital when creating patchwork. Like pebbles on the seashore, a variety of neutral textures and hues creates a peaceful, expansive background for your favorite colors.

For the Dark Value fabric bundle, I chose a full range of grays from blue-grays to brown-grays, a cocoa brown and earth brown, charcoal and black.

For the Low Value fabric bundle I also included a variety of tones, including subtle blush, taupes, grays and creams. I feel this kind of variety lends life to patchwork and works especially well for scrap quilts!

Our lucky winner will be chosen at random on July 1st. I will use Instagram messaging to be in touch to organize shipping of the prize.

Thanks for supporting my sponsor, Winter Creek Cloth. They ship from Oregon.
