wowie zowie, Windmills!

Do you want to sew a windmill? Of course you do, haha! Doesn’t everyone?

Well, those in the Penny Sampler Pattern Club are finally having their chance. The Windmill block is one of those included in the September delivery. Yes, we had to be patient, but now the time is right. We’ve had lots of practice and built up our skills gradually. Let’s celebrate some of your wonderful windmills today!

Bold and beautiful by Natalie Santini @SewHungryHippie.

Natalie used several solids, which give the windmill clean lines and allow the viewer to soak up that unexpected vibrant pink background!

Psychedelic by Andrea Kollath @QuiltManufaktur.

Isn’t that whirly, swirly background fabric such a find? The forecast is definitely windy today. I love the intense colors in the floral building fabric as well.

Lovely day by Charlotte Maxwell @Grammie_Q.

This one feels light and airy. I love how the eye is drawn to the red stripe in the windmill blades and the soft contrast between the building and building window fabrics.

Splendid and sunny by Mimiko @Aozora21.

This graceful windmill feels a part of the sky with showy fabric choices and effective use of value set off the windmill elements. The ombre background choice adds interest without overshadowing the patchwork.

Thanks to each of these makers for sharing your inspiring work. And to the rest of you in the pattern club, I’ll be on the look out at our hashtag, #PennySamplerPatternClub, for yours.

Want to join us? You still can! Click here and start your own Penny Sampler story. You’ll receive all previously released club materials right away and then be linked in to receive October, November and December materials along with the rest of the group. If you’re interested in learning to machine paper piece, this club is ideal for that.

THINGS TO NOTE:

  1. This is machine paper piecing, so it’s entirely sewn by machine. There are no hand sewn elements in this club.

  2. If you’ve never machine paper pieced before, this is a great time to start. January includes a detailed handbook with tips for newbies and paper piecing pros alike. Plus, links to 2 of my training videos for those who have never paper pieced before.

  3. Don’t worry - we’re starting off with the easy stuff! No need to jump into the deep end. Yes, Windmill will have to wait.

Let me know if you have any questions and don’t be shy!
