Postage Stamps, a scrappy star ensemble

It’s time for another scrappy wonder!

Red is such a pretty color, but I hardly wear it or work with it. Why? That’s something I’d like to change! For this scrappy dance, I’ve paired red and pink. It feels a little Christmas-y, and a little sweet.

Cut, cut, trim, trim. I love this part! Everything is so neat and orderly and full to the brim with promise.

After making a few handsome half square triangle blocks, I dive into this patchwork jigsaw puzzle.

Here’s the showy center block. Now you see an on-point square, but can you guess what happens next?

Add a round of patchwork, using lots and lots of 2.5” squares - - -

And, ta da! Can you see the stars? They’re forming at the edges in the low volume sections. I think that’s very fun!

This patchwork concept is destined become its own full quilt someday. I keep dreaming about how I’d play with color for the on point squares vs. the stars. Lots of ideas! But for now, this bit of patchwork magic must stay in pieces because, remember, I have something very special planned.

I’m preparing a block-of-the-month for 2022! In the coming weeks I’ll be sewing and sharing one ensemble at a time. The first one was that Sawtooth Burst and Postage Stamps is the second. Each ensemble features classic patchwork that’s designed to interweave at the end as a fantastic, dancing ensemble. It’s delicious, scrappy patchwork in a surprising modern layout.

More soon!
