A Colorful Thread: November 2021
Weaving together my life as a maker and other spheres of life.
Best of Stitched in Color {November}
On My Mind
Planning:: Earlier this year I bought a charming Christmas fabric from Purple Stitches to make a casual Christmas dress for Elora. I’ve just washed the fabric and settled on the Stella Ikatee dress pattern. Fingers crossed that a quilting cotton fabric works out well for a Stella dress! I know Elora will love wearing the cute reindeer print, even if it’s not the most lux garment fabric!
Reading:: Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. This is one of my favorite non-fiction books of the year for sure. Oliver writes with humor about embracing our humanity, choosing well with our limited time and resources and accepting reality. It generated a fantastic discussion at book club, and I think there’s still lots more left to say.
Celebrating:: this stunning rendition of Honeycomb Stars by @AcousticSpaceCat. I am awestruck by the gentle beauty of this quilt. I certainly see the Milky Way, as the maker intended, in the reversed value placement and dreamy blue-purple fabrics. So inspiring!
Anticipating:: Christmas time!
Yesterday afternoon we bicycled to a Christmas tree farm located just 20 minutes north of our house. We only learned this year about the opportunity to buy from a local grower, as we always did in the States. So fun to reinstate the tradition of walking the farm to choose our tree AND taking a photo of the kids among the firs. We started doing this when Aria was a wee thing, just getting the hang of running and the photo opp has stuck as a family tradition.
This Christmas promises to be extra sweet, as it is our last (we expect) with Aria at home. They do grow up so fast! And, yes, Liam is now taller than Aria. A fact of which he is not a little proud.
Our tree will be delivered tomorrow! And then the decorating begins - - -
This November was a full and beautiful month. We celebrated two birthdays and Thanksgiving, I hosted a “gezellig” book club and began sewing a scrappy Block of the Month program for 2022. I absolutely love this time of year, with traditions to savor, gifts to give and the new year waiting around the bend to begin it all anew. How fortunate we are to have these moments. Wishing you all a wondrous December, sprinkled with creative pleasure.
xoxo,
