A Colorful Thread: September 2021
Weaving together my life as a maker and other spheres of life.
Best of Stitched in Color {September}
On My Mind
Dreaming:: last night I had trouble sleeping. As I lie awake, my thoughts drifted to sewing a simple squares patchwork quilt. I imagined cutting up my scraps into smallish squares and arranging them by color. The simplicity is inviting, but I know it sounds quicker than it would actually be! Perhaps I shall start with some 16-patch blocks and see where it goes?
Reading:: our bookclub choice for September was The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri. This poignant novel is based on the author’s real life experiences working with refugees in the Mediterranean region. It is artistically written, heavy with emotion and totally engrossing. It opened a window for me into the realities of the refugee plight.
Celebrating:: This late-summer beauty by @OrangeTulipHandmade.
What a gorgeous rendition, Femke. I’m so glad you enjoyed my book!
Anticipating:: Cutting into these fabrics!
These are the fabrics I’ve selected from the Warp & Weft wovens collection for my next Honeycomb Stars quilt. The colors are intoxicating! With autumn just arrived, working with this palette couldn’t be more perfect.
By the way, you can get the same set of fabrics as a Honeycomb Stars quilt kit!
September was another packed month for me. I put in extra sewing time to meet deadlines related to the release of the Honeycomb Stars pattern and the queen/king size version of that quilt, which I wanted to test and photograph prior to the start of our sew-along. With Monday’s share of the finished quilt, I feel like I’ve crossed a finish line and can breathe again. I’m looking forward to sewing my Warp & Weft Honeycomb Stars with the measured pace of the sew-along. Meanwhile there is room for another new project and the tantalizing question of what that shall be.
After the high energy of summer, autumn beckons us to slow down, turn inwards and draw others near round cozy fires, warm drinks in hand. I’m looking forward to fire pits with friends, carving pumpkins and watching the foliage change. Maybe this weekend I’ll plant some bulbs and freshen up our front door with harvest bounty. Wishing you rest and rejuvenation at this turn of the seasons.
xoxo,
