Wild Oranges: Sew Quadrant 2
Show of hands - how many people are working ahead? This might be a sew-along record! By the looks of things at our hashtag #WildOrangesQuilt, many of you find making this quilt a bit addictive. I totally get it, lol.
Can you still join the sew-along? Sure you can. We have 3 weeks left. To find out how to join the Wild Oranges sew-along, click over to the master sew-along post. You’ll find links to all of the already-published posts under the Schedule heading. We’re using a digital pattern, so you can grab it in a flash and sew right along.
Week 3: Sew Quadrant 2
Now that you’ve sewn your first quadrant, you know exactly what to expect: arrange fabrics, press orange peels, applique and join blocks! It’s that easy.
Need a little help? Here is a Pressing Video that shows the orange peel pressing in process.
Do you find it a challenge to keep everything organized during the pressing/applique process? Here are two ideas:
Take a photo after arranging all your background squares and cut peels. Periodically check the photo as you press and appliqué to check for mix-ups.
Change the order of events. Start by pressing all the orange peels for a quadrant. Then, arrange background squares and pin peels in place. That’s a lot less back-and-forth.
I had a helper in my sewing room as I finished up Quadrant 2. Elora likes to use this heavy, miniature iron to help me press. Isn’t that a cute little thing? My mom found once upon a time at a second hand shop. To Elora it’s more than a decoration.
I know another way that she can help - - -
Tada, the finished quadrant!
