new pattern release - Scrap Cabin

Here comes some happy scrappy fun! It’s pattern release day. Sound the trumpets for my newest pattern - - -

Scrap Cabin!

When the new year dawns, I love to sew a scrap quilt. This one came to be once upon a January years ago.

And you have been asking for the pattern ever since.

Because here is what’s special about this: it uses long, thin scraps of every width and length! So say goodbye to tedious cutting and fabric waste as you trim-trim-trim your scraps. Instead, this patchwork emerges organically from the scrap sizes you already have. That’s so fast and satisfying, my friends!

Do you love sewing scrap quilts? Me too! They are so deliciously quirky. My first Scrap Cabin quilt had a calm analogous color scheme, with blue and purple, plus neutrals. I was able to use such a wide variety of fabrics, and even though each fabric isn’t a favorite, they look fantastic when all together.

My new version of Scrap Cabin is using a high-energy complementary color scheme. Each Scrap Cabin Cluster features two contrasting colors. This color variation means that I don’t have to have a lots of scraps in any one color. That’s right - even if you are scrap poor, you can still join in on the fun!

In this level 2 Color Mentor pattern, we put two key concepts to work. First, I invite you how to use an analogous or complementary palette to focus your energy. Second, I show you how to use value to combine fabrics in a way that creates a strong design - even with a scrap quilt.

And let’s not forget that snazzy, peaks-and-valleys border. I wonder what it would look like in a rainbow of colors? I’m going to find out with my next Scrap Cabin quilt. A quilt-along is coming in January!

Log Cabins - they’re endlessly charming, right? This pattern was for me love at first sight, and I have a feeling you’re feeling the same way. In two weeks I’ll talk more about the sew-along and announce a kick-off giveaway. You can get started now by reading through the first few pages of the pattern, and contemplating if you’ll opt for a consistent, restful color scheme or one that’s chock full of color- - - or even something in between. As always, I’m eager to see what you sew!
