Wonky Stars for do. Good Stitches

This month with do. Good Stitches our charity bee quilt block is the wonky star. That’s always fun! We are tasked to sew 2-3 blocks for the collaborative quilt, using low volume backgrounds and scraps for our stars.

I have a whole scrap bin full of triangle scraps. Wonky stars are the ideal quilt block for using up triangle scraps. Each of the eight star points will use a triangle scrap. Yay!

For my first block, I wanted to use that soda pop center square. I chose bright, colorful triangle scraps in the colors of the soda bottles. Only, in the end these star points really overpowered the center print.

No worries! I made a new set of star points for the soda bottle print, this time focusing on pastels and repeating some fabrics to keep it calmer. I love how that star came out! Hmmm, a quilt full of pastel stars would be dreamy - - -

But let’s stay on task. ;)

Sponsor of the Week

Nanno Creative

Modern fabric artists Giucy Giuce and Libs Elliott have just released new collections with Andover Fabrics. An array of neutrals from Giucy Giuce set off Libs’ painterly Glaze textures in this quilt made by Rianne, the owner of Nanno Creative.

Fortunately, I was able to use the bright, colorful star points for the plaid star center.

After sewing the wonky star blocks from 3.5” cut squares, we are piecing 2.5” low volume strips on two sides of each block. This sets the stars off-center, which will create a tumbling, playful vibe.

So, that’s a wrap for my May bee blocks! Now I think that I will let these pretty stars sparkle for a week or so in my sewing room before I send them off.
