*Inspiration* Elora's Pastel bedroom

In December we will move house. For the first time, Elora is helping to design her own room. To begin, I gathered together a lot of fun girl’s room images on Pinterest to expose her a wide variety of styles. She quickly and confidently zeroed in on this dreamy pastel room from Lay Baby Lay.

Wow! Isn’t that lovely? I see a whisper-soft pink, sunshine yellow and aqua as the main colors. There are also a few pops of brighter rainbow shades, which is perfect because Elora wants a rainbow patchwork quilt. I have often wished for an excuse to sew literal rainbow-shaped patchwork, so thank-you-very-much Elora!

So far, this is my favorite rainbow patchwork pattern. It’s a quilt design by Megan Collins called Sunshowers Quilt. I think I would do the background in low volumes and am already eyeing the selection at Fresh Modern Fabric. The low volumes will hide stains better than pure white. I can’t help but be a bit practical!

But I have this nagging feeling that I have seen another great rainbow patchwork pattern somewhere. Hmmm. Clue me in if you have a rainbow pattern favorite, okay?

Today I made a Pinterest board to flesh out ideas for Elora’s room. To be able to follow links to these products and inspiration images, click over to Elora’s Room board.

My challenge with this room will be to keep it soft and calm feeling, like the inspiration image. Elora also wants rainbows, which can quickly become bright and high energy. I think that I will sew the rainbow quilt mainly with pastel colors and just a sprinkling of classic rainbow hues. Besides making the quilt, I’d like to make some soft pompom decor and bring in natural elements like the Sinnerlig hanging lamp, which I already own, and that cute flower mirror. The wall art here includes inexpensive Ikea posters and a rainbow sticker mural. That’s totally doable. The only idea that I am not sure quite fits is the bookshelf, which could be too busy. I am really drawn to the arched pink panted wall behind the books in that image. Perhaps we could do a similar arch, but simple hang an art piece in the featured space.

Ok, exciting stuff! I do love dreaming about home decor.
