Stitched in Color

Dear Roy on my Wall

Adding to a quilt, block by block, and experiencing its birth on my wall - that magic is something that continues to charm me. It casts a spell of discovery and adventure, because some quilts come out better than others, some quilts don’t come out at all and others, well other quilts take me quite by surprise with their power and beauty.

Making Dear Roy has been a restful, joyful experience. It feels safe and predictable because I am working with the already tried and true Dear Dottie block. It feels heart-opening and joyous because the work is about color. Color never fails to feed my soul.

Fresh Modern Fabric

A rare find! Constellations Collection, by Lizzy House for Andover Fabrics is available now exclusively at Fresh Modern Fabric.   This is an older and quite popular collection, copyright 2012! On occasion Alice brings out a treasured collection from her "vault", and Constellations is the newest debut.  What fun!

Some color transitions, like life transitions, come easily. I have just the right colors in my fabric stash, as with this orange-yellow-green blend. Familiar territory.

These are the life transitions that one has made before and can comfortably make again. How many times have I separated green-blues from true-blues? How many times have I packed and moved house?

Other transitions take us through challenging, uncharted territory. I plan to connect my red and true blues by traveling from red through cranberry reds and from blue through blue-purples, before landing in familiar plummy purple in between. I may not have the right fabrics. I may flounder a bit; but here I go.

And so it is with my move later this year. I will be leaving the home of my marriage and venturing out on my own or into an in-between living-with-boyfriend experience. Unfamiliar. Challenging. Stretching.

New territory is always a chance to learn and grow.
