The Thread
I'm a little late on this announcement, but here goes...
I have a column! Yes, a real life magazine column in Quilty magazine. It's called "The Thread" and I'll be writing about the conjunction of quilting and the online world. Hey, I feel qualified! Woohoo!
This new-ish magazine is put out by the folks at Fons & Porter, edited by Mary Fons (who is awesome, by the way). The magazine's by-line is "fresh patchwork + modern quilts" and it's a very quilt-beginner-friendly publication.
When Mary contacted me about writing, I was flattered, naturally, but unsure. Taking a good look at the magazine fixed that. Each issue is packed with quilt patterns, which makes so much sense. Like there are 12 quilt patterns in this issue! Here's my favorite:
Plus, the overall layout is so upbeat, yet clean. Just look at how creatively they're showing off a spread of 60's inspired fabrics.
So fun!
Well, my first article is published in this May/April issue. It's about blogging, haha. Best to start close to home. I've a few more finished articles arlready in the queu. My next article assignment is kind of about controversy online.... Danger! I put my thinking cap and slippers and magic hair clips on today. Going to need all the thinking help I can get!
Oh, would you like to see some fabric?
I've restocked my Kona and Essex linen stash with some gorgeous colors I'll be using in my Scandinavian quilt (which is maybe, but not necessarily, called my Penny Patch quilt. Unless I change my mind). From top left these are Kona Glacier, Ash, Iron, Candy Green, White, Rose, Oyster, Med. Gray, Azure, Snow, Essex Flax and Essex Natural.
Today I am off to work on my next class, specifically experimenting with some applique gizmos. I've gotten into a rhythm of working on my class projects on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, my dedicated Stitched in Color work days. Seems to be a good balance so that I can feel free to pursue other projects on my non-work days. But, I tell ya, it's a lot of shifting gears. I'm looking forward to getting back to my strings later this week!
