Pink Latte: a finished quilt

There is nothing like a sunny day after weeks and weeks of clouds and rain.  And I suppose that is what one's troubled heart wishes it could believe, could hold on to.  I have read through about half of your comments on Eleni's 7 month update post.  I didn't think reading them would help... but it did.  Being brutally honest about my feelings gave you the opportunity to speak words of healing.

The sun is shining now, reflecting off pools of standing water all over the state of South Carolina.  It lights up the continuous eight quilting on my Pink Latte herringbone quilt. The vintage-inspired pretty little floral and soft neutrals are precisely as feminine-zen as I had hoped.

I love how this quilt turned out!  Especially the top/bottom border of tiny, leftover squares - that's the best part.  Or the diamonds at the herringbone rows - maybe that's the best part?  Well, I don't know, but I'm pleased with the finish.

For the quilt back, I used several yards of Wild + Free Woven Path from Fat Quarter Shop.  I sewed together the selvedge, which I didn't even bother to remove, with an extra generous seam allowance.  The result looks like a continuous piece of fabric, unless you really search for the break in the pattern.

Although I also appreciate pieced quilt backs, I knew this particular quilt wanted something more streamlined.  This print is the ideal combination of simple and sophisticated. 

So, I'm not sure why I departed from "sophisticated" to finish her with red thread, but something about that felt exactly right.  See zigzag binding and herringbone block tutorials to make your own.  

I haven't finished a quilt in awhile (what have I been doing?), so finishing this felt mighty nice.  I was feeling all charged up, eager to go on to finish my improv quilt and then get back to paper piecing the scrappy pickle when I realized it's October - Halloween costume coming up next.
