Patchwork Bento Bag
Yay, I finished this just in time to build some pre-Christmas anticipation!
Aria is really hard to shop for these days, but I had a late epiphany that I could make her something to do with knitting. She loves to knit, and has recently taken to fair isle (check out this block). She said she could use another yarn-keeper. A little browsing and we saw some bento bags online that appealed to her.
Blue-greens are Aria’s favorite. Luckily I had this big corduroy scrap for the lining. Of course, I always have lots of string scraps that can be used to make a patchwork fabric. I hope she likes it!
I wanted the bag to have some oomph, so I even used interfacing. After the doll bed project, a little sew-in interfacing is no big deal!

I searched online for tutorials, and preferred this one by Tiny Happy. It’s for a Lined Bento Bag and has great step-by-step pictures. The sewing is really easy and quick. This would be a nice project for anyone learning to sew.
The finished bag can be used like this to hold a ball of yarn while knitting. A bag or bowl helps keep the yarn clean, and yet lets it unwind as you knit. Hopefully this works well for her! I can easily make more, haha, as she learns to knit with more and more colors.
And when you’re on the move, just tie up the bento bag and toss it into a larger tote.
Today I’ve made her promise not to look at my blog until after Christmas. At 15, do you think she’ll manage to resist? I think so! And, anyways, it kind of adds to the fun.
Have a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, everyone!
xoxo,
Rachel
