Charity Quilting with do. Good Stitches

In the early days of the online quilting community, I founded a charity quilting bee called do. Good Stitches. It’s a group with a simple mission - to connect quilters online who want to work together to make quilts for people in need.

Do. Good Stitches is organized into “circles”, with each circle composed of 10 members. Members are usually concentrated within the same country or region for practical reasons. Each circle makes approximately one quilt per month for its chosen charity. Charities range from foster children, seriously ill children, elderly in Hospice, women’s shelters and really any cause that a group agrees upon collectively.

From 2010 to 2018 I contributed to the Love circle and Faith circle quilts. Here are some of the quilts I had a opportunity to lead during my time with those groups:

Now that we’re settled into our new home in The Netherlands, I have joined a do. Good Stitches circle based here in the European Union. I’ve just completed my first blocks for the bee!

I’ll be mailing these two to the Comfort circle member who is leading our January quilt. She’ll receive blocks from all members and then assemble/complete the quilt, before donating it to a good cause.

Interested in Joining?

Right now, we could really use some new members who are willing to take a turn leading and assembling/finishing the monthly quilt. You typically would lead twice per year. These “quilter” members don’t have to come up with original ideas. You can point your group to any existing tutorial online. As for quilting, any durable quilting method is fine. No need to get fancy!
