Penny Sampler February progress
Hello, hello, Penny Sampler club members. How are you progressing this February? I love to browse the Penny Sampler Pattern Club hashtag to admire all your interesting and playful February blocks.
I have to admit that I find mine a little humdrum. My mini pinwheels and double diamonds are understated, with repeating fabrics and a neutral palette. I know that’ll serve the overall composition of the sampler quilt in the way I have in mind, but as stand alone blocks they’re just not that exciting.
Which makes it even more fun is it to see yours!
Check out these snazzy double diamonds by Natalie @SewHungryHippie:
Aren’t they like candy? Or, what about Kimberly’s version of the block (@KimberLowe), which manages to be snazzy too, but all in black and white:
I feel more satisfied with my Courthouse Steps block. I let loose with a little scrappy fabric play, which certainly hits the spot. Though what really makes me smile is all that texture in the vertical solid blue steps. Yum!
There are a bunch of Courthouse Steps blocks popping up to inspire us all. Check out this feather-soft beauty by Steffi @QuiltWerke:
And I was totally wowed by @Heirami_’s creative use of color:
Her glowing Courthouse Steps block will surely make a statement in her Penny Sampler quilt!
Pretty soon I’ll start sewing March blocks. March includes our first picture block. We’re gradually working up in difficulty, so it’s not the Windmill block yet or the Bike. I wonder if you can guess which one? Hehe.
We’re also sewing the dramatic Hanging Diamonds, which fall in the left border of the Penny Sampler quilt. With that we’ll take another leap forward in our Penny Sampler project!
