I'm a little teapot

Do you know what’s really fun to sew? A teapot. Oh, and teacups! But we haven’t gotten to those yet.

Members of the Penny Sampler Pattern Club received the March delivery prior to the weekend. This morning, I was super excited to find several completed teapot blocks already floating around #PennySamplerPatternClub. Yay! Today I’ll add mine to the mix:

I decided it was time to add more color to my Penny Sampler. I had never intended it to be a purely blue/green quilt, but my fabric choices had been rather focused so far. The teapot is one of my favorite blocks. In these warm, toasty colors, it’ll grab some attention.

Denyse Schmidt Flea Market Fancy makes up the main fabric on the pot, plus coral accents. I took a little risk with the background, opting for a print rather than a solid. This Cotton + Steel print is non-directional, with low value contrast between the flowers and the background. These factors help the fabric work effectively as a background print for a paper pieced block.

rora + hanging diamonds. Stitched in Color.jpg

Haha, Happy Thoughts from little miss Rora. She does love the photographic limelight these days. Rora is posing by my Hanging Diamonds block. I used that fantastic Firefly Whisper Art Gallery print for the background and a glowing golden yellow print for the diamonds. To me this block represents the sunshine peaking out from behind the clouds. In The Netherlands we’re drawn outside like moths to the flame, whenever the sun is shining!

Here is my Dutch-inspired Penny Sampler so far. I’ve arranged my blocks in the proper formation to see how the colors are grouping. I usually do this once a month, in order to choose fabrics for the next set of blocks.

You’ll see I’ve also put some fabrics on the wall to indicate future intentions. For example, I plan to use that pea green fabric for the background of the bike block (coming in April!) and the Firefly Whisper print in a few more places, for harmonizing repetition.

I really like what these warm colors add to the mix!
