Seafarers Tulip Crown blocks
I’m super excited to show you my latest edition to my Seafarers quilt! It’s another Penny Sampler Pattern Club block, set to arrive in the July delivery.
Can you guess where this is going?
Any ideas for those little squares?
Ta da! Say “hello” to Tulip Crown!
Of course my Dutch-inspired Penny Sampler needed some tulips and why not a quartet? This block will be placed at the top right of my Penny Sampler (also currently in progress), in a much calmer palette.
All you patchwork experts will notice that I combined foundation paper piecing with the corner-square method. Yep, I did. This way minimizes seams, which saves time and fabric. I’m flexible like that. If you use my patterns, you will be too!
Here I’ve made the Tulip Crown block four times over for the Seafarers quilt, an extra quilt pattern included with Penny Sampler Pattern Club.
That’s the thing about samplers - the blocks can be used so many ways! Later this year I’ll be delivering yet another alternative quilt layout for your Penny Sampler blocks, so stay tuned.
And since I’ve been asked a lot lately - yes, you can still join the Penny Sampler Pattern Club. Within about 24 hours of buying your full-year membership, I’ll send you links to all of the previously published club materials. You’ll be subscribed to the club deliveries, so that you receive future materials along with the rest of us.
New to foundation paper piecing? Joining late has advantages. Start with the beginner’s tutorial in the January issue, to learn paper piecing from the ground up. Then, hand pick the easier blocks from all that’s been released and work up gradually. (We kind of did that with the club, but we also saved some easier blocks for later, just to spread out the easy finishes.)
Don’t be shy! There are plenty of people starting up “late” in the game. No matter what block you’re sewing, there’s lots of inspiration and camaraderie via Instagram and the #PennySamplerPatternClub hashtag.
Fun, fun!
