new pattern release - Nineteen Thirty
Happy Monday! It’s pattern release day. I’m super excited to present my newest pattern - - -
Nineteen Thirty!
What began as homage to Dutch 1930’s architecture has turned into a quilt with a refined, timeless style. From the graceful Orchid block petals to the stunning medallion center to the reassuring familiarity of the patchwork border - this quilt offers an enticing combination of patchwork experiences.
Feeling intimidated? I hope to set your mind at ease. This is an intermediate level quilt, only because it uses a variety of techniques. I did a lot of experimenting during my development of this quilt to zero in on a construction style that yields the most lovely results. The pattern teaches simple curved piecing and entry-level applique, since these techniques minimize seams and allow for beautiful, large cuts of unbroken fabric. That said, they’re not advanced skills. If you’ve done any curved piecing or appliqué at all, you’re well-prepared for this quilt! If you’ve never done them, let me walk you through, step-by-step. Now is the time to learn! And if the pattern leaves you with any questions, please do ask.
Nineteen Thirty pattern includes very detailed cutting and fabric placement instructions with the goal of enabling you to recreate the balance and flow of my example quilt. You can sew a Nineteen Thirty quilt with the Bramble quilt kit or with your own fabrics, using value as a guide. A blank colorsheet and example alternative mockups are included.
Nineteen Thirty quilt is a fat-quarter friendly pattern. The only yardage required is 1 3/4 yards of background fabric. For the rest of the quilt elements you can use fat quarter cuts (like I did), or even smaller precuts. Because you don’t need a lot of any one print, this is a quilt you could sew from your stash!
The pattern includes three pages of templates and many pages of detailed sewing instructions. Because it is such a diverse quilt, with many different elements, the pattern is long and the price reflects that. It’s like a mini block-of-the-month!
That’s also why I’ve set aside 4 months for the sew-along. You’ll want to take your time with this, savoring the steps and the variety of sewing experiences.
Somehow all these special elements come together with the elegance of a formal garden, complete with medallion fountain, flower beds, trellis and garden wall.
I can’t wait to see the magic you make with your own Nineteen Thirty renditions. More about the sew-along soon. You can get started now by reading through the first few pages of the pattern, regarding color and fabric. Now is the time to gather supplies!
