Scraptacularity
To borrow a word from Completely Cauchy, Scraptacularity it is. Last night I had a gloriously relaxing time improv piecing a set of blocks from citrus-inspired scraps.
I used my tiniest scraps, my fabric "crumbs", which really do go a long way if you can figure out a way to use them. This time, someone else figured it out for me. Thank-you very much! Or two someones?
Jacey asked the Love circle of do. Good Stitches to make scrappy improv blocks with as many scraps as we'd like in greens, yellows and oranges for this month's charity quilt. She linked us over to Sara's cool quilt, which reminded me of a tutorial I'd been wanting to try.
I followed the tutorial at Completely Cauchy for sewing with bias scraps. Instead of using paper as my foundation, I used some muslin scraps so that Jacey wouldn't get stuck pulling out paper. It's a really easy method of sewing that gives you just tons of freedom to use random scraps. I was actually looking for triangles, instead of avoiding them!
My blocks finished around 9" square and the other at 11". They're off this week to Jacey, along with a do. Good tag. (Quilters for do. Good Stitches can order these tags here. Maybe talk to your host about pitching in to order one yard to share amongst your circle!). Now I'm thinking about doing some more crumb piecing and maybe making them into journal covers. Journal covers for the craft show that I can't stop thinking about?
Maybe.
P.S. Reporting a good morning today, possibly as a result of a new boundary I'm testing - no turning on the computer until after lunch. Thanks for your support yesterday!
P.S.S. If you're an active Flickr user who enjoys working in a modern quilting style, please consider joining do. Good Stitches! You can register for the wait list right here. I launch new circles just as soon as we have enough volunteers!
