Love in Fallen Stars

By the time I clipped the last threads on my zigzag binding, I was thinking happy thoughts about this quilt.  You know what?  It reminds me of a vintage quilt, in a good way!  The not-so-settled color scheme says "make do" and all those earthy, fall tones seem like something that's been around awhile, something comfortable and familiar.

I think that for once the quilting itself made the difference for me.  I love the way the straight lines centered over each star diamond give the stars a faceted feel.  The hand-pieced seams of the stars themselves echo the quilting lines.  Good texture.  This Summerlove Naivety star is my very fave.

I also quilted along some diamond paths of the star surrounds to anchor the quilt with more quilting, but those are hard to see.  Oh, and I added a round of dark brown quilting over the Kona Espresso border too.  I could have done even more, but I'm a lazy quilter.  A lazy quilter who seems to be getting a wee bit better, though!

There were a few stars that I reserved for the back.  Combined with Kona Mushroom and a bit of Loulouthi Clippings, it has more a spring look.

Love in Fallen Stars is bound with Pearl Bracelet in light pink and another cream grid print, for which I don't recall the name.

Next week we'll be celebrating a year's worth of charity quilting with do. Good Stitches. The circles have been voting on which quilt to submit as their best of 2012.  I was pleased to see Love circle choose Ara Jane's quilt, if only because Ara Jane has been with Love circle from the very beginning, and so holds a special place in my heart.  Here's to many more years of stitching for love!

Though, just to be clear, one thing I think is cool about do. Good Stitches is that it's ok for members to come and go.  Some of us have the time and opportunity to keep quilting for charity ongoing and for some of us it'll just be part of a year.  Of course it's fun when members stick around and we all get to know each other more and more.  But, it's also great for people to lend their talents for a time.  Three cheers for all those who have been part of do. Good Stitches past and present!
