done Good {Haven circle}
do. Good Stitches is a modern online community that quilts for good. Over the years the bee has grown and grown, so that these days I find myself struggling to keep current with all the beautiful work being done. I wish I could do better to encourage members, so I thought to try cheering for them from here, in the way of finished object posts. About once a month, I'll share some "done Good". Today, Haven circle takes the spotlight!
This July, Emilee Mason called for Patchwork Wheel blocks following Don't Call Me Betsy's tutorial. Members were to make 2 blocks, each in one main color and using either a neutral solid or low volume text print for the background fabrics. Emilee made and posted the above blocks, so her bee mates could follow her lead.
What a great block for using scraps, especially when you can choose your desired color focus. I often find my do. Good Stitches blocks are scrap-friendly though! In this bee each quilter works from her own stash, so it's key that we tend to buy and use fabrics that mesh well together.
These blocks by Kelli H. are well nigh, perfect, aren't they? I heard she made a second set of blocks (this set) because her first weren't exactly right. Thanks for your dedication, Kelly! Those kind of decisions make it so much easier when it comes to assembling a collaborative work.
And here's the just-finished quilt! This was Emilee's first time serving as a quilter (a member who takes a turn every 5 months planning and finishing the group quilt), and she did a wonderful job!
I especially love the blue on the pieced back and her diamond quilting. Congratulations Emilee, Haven host Sara (Knottygnome) and the entire Haven circle, Flickr names: Goin' Dixie, Down to Sew, CosbyGryffin, Nell_quilts, CyclingJanes, CourtiePie, Hohnstreiter_Ohana and Scrappinsassy!
This quilt will be sent off to Alternatives for Battered Women, a shelter in New York.
