Love in Starbright Stars
One evening in the early autumn twilight, we captured some photographs of this recent finish.
It's Love in Starbright Stars, a collaborative quilt made with blocks by my Love circle friends, to be donated to Wrap Them in Love. We're a circle of do. Good Stitches that makes quilts for needy children.
Putting this quilt together was an intriguing color puzzle. With lots and lots of rearranging, I did my best to bring triangle points in similar pinks together. I'm loving the contrast between the resulting dark and light stars. I think it creates more movement in the quilt than freely mixing the colors would have done.
I asked for stars in any shade of pink. Monochromatic is such a powerful and safe color scheme. No matter what kind of pink I received, even if they tend towards purple or red, the shades blend and tumble together with such richness. I really think this works beautifully with any color at all. Try it!
So, as you know... I jumped into straight line free motion quilting to finish this baby up. That part wasn't pleasant. It was at least 2/3's through the quilt before I noticed much improvement on my lines. In the meantime.... well, I was not very pleasant!
But I do like how it turned out on the back. All that red Essex linen/cotton blend creates a clear canvas for the star quilting. In the end, if I step back, I think it turned out real pretty. Finished with Joel Dewberry lattice pink binding for a subtle edge.
It's such a privilege to do something I love in a way that blesses others. I've been leading the Love circle for 4 years now, during which time do. Good Stitches has grown and multiplied into 24 circles stretched round the world. Thanks to all who have been involved with the bee in the past, are with us right now or will be in the future. We will never know how greatly our stitches, our art has impacted others.
The world is changed one little act at a time. Won't you join us?
