Full Scrappy for Patchwork from Scrap

Registration for Patchwork from Scrap opens in less than three weeks, on June 20th.  Now that my pregnancy and this class are all out in the open, I feel much better.  It irks me to keep secrets!  Too much filtering required!  And thanks so much for your congratulations.

Right now I'm working on a new project for the class and finding it so perfectly delightful! 

Patchwork from Scraps is an online class that will roll out over 5 weeks on a private class blog.  Weeks three and four we'll be sewing small projects and quilts, respectively.  Each week will include 3 projects which pull from different types of scraps.  There should be one that suits your scraps, even if you have a limited supply.  My current make is a super scrappy rail fence quilt built from string scraps!

It started rather modestly (and, yes, lotus quilt is patiently waiting its turn)...

But has grown rapidly!  The construction plan for this quilt allows one to use versatile length strings.  However, when you use longer ones, it makes multiple blocks lickety split!

I think I'm in love! 

In the instructions for every Patchwork from Scrap project I discuss fabric choices, including general guidelines to keep in mind or tips for recreating my look.  This class is targeted towards those who are new through intermediate quilters.  It starts from the ground up with good cutting habits, fabric organization, what scraps to keep vs. toss, how to work with fabrics you don't love and more such sewing "theory".

As it happens, my rail fence quilt is the first "full scrappy" project I've made for Patchwork from Scrap, meaning it has a wild, scrappy look.  Today it reminds me of this image by Elle Caruthers, which inspired my Clashy Bright mosaic contest way back in 2013.

Scrap quilting is a lovely juxtaposition - color and pattern disorder, resourcefully reordered.
