Voile Patchwork Curtains
Last evening, if you had dropped by, you would have found me in the living room grinning and clapping for joy! When Aria returned home she said it really felt like home again, and I couldn’t agree more. Why all the giddy, cozy-good feelings?
I hung my favorite curtains!
These voile patchwork curtains are one of the favorite things I’ve ever made. They’re exuberant, floaty, fun prettiness that I get to enjoy every day. Sadly there was nowhere to hang them at our first Dutch home, so I haven’t seen them in awhile. Now I appreciate them all the more!
I actually brought the curtains to our new home during the renovation, because hanging them was at top of my wish list. It was pretty hilarious to discover how incredibly short they were for the height of our new room. In fact, I had to add a full 19” in length! Luckily they’re patchwork style, so adding more fabric is rather straightforward. I used large voile scraps to create a long 19” tall panel, which I added along the bottom of each curtain.
I sew this unlined, semi-transparent patchwork with French seams, so that the seams are finished on both sides. It creates a sort of stained glass effect that adds to the charm. The outer edges of the curtains are finished with a tiny rolled hem.
Fabric are mainly by Anna Maria Horner, mostly from the Little Folks collection. That’s an oldie that really deserves a reprint!
The curtains are hung with ribbon loops, which are super simple to sew and pretty too.
We’ve lived in our new home for a few weeks now. In every room there are little projects yet to be done, but nearly every day we make another step of progress. Hanging these curtains was making a leap!

Fabric Notes: Voile is a lightweight woven cotton fabric that is semi transparent. It is quite similar to cotton lawn (and I used some lawn fabric in the extension). The Confident Stitch has both voile and lawn fabrics. I love these Lindley Lawns at Fenceline Fabrics. Purple Stitches (United Kingdom) also has some nice lawns. Good luck!
