Kismet has my Heart

Sometimes fabric is love at first sight. That’s how it was for me with Kismet, an Art Gallery Fabrics collection by Sharon Holland.

This collection was released in 2020, when I was totally engrossed in shopping for our new home. Even so, Kismet stood out to me, and I wished I had an excuse to buy the whole thing. But I didn’t, at the time, and I expected I would miss my chance with it.

Luckily, Kismet has stuck around. Quilt shops can still order the whole, fantastic collection! Now, after nearly a year living in my Dutch dream home, I’ve realized that Kismet is exactly what my living room/dining room needs.

I painted one big wall in this room yellow. It’s proved to be an upbeat, yet muted shade, perfect for our home’s style and lighting. I love it! The gray sofa is a little “meh” to me, but my husband likes it, and I feel that the the muted plum rug and warm accent pillow colors set a cozy tone.

But across the room is our dining area with the bright, splashy patchwork curtains I made almost 10 years ago to brighten up our South Carolina farmhouse. I’ve loved every inch of these curtains, and yet, it seems it is time for a change. New patchwork curtains with Kismet fabrics would really pull together these spaces, don’t you think?

It could also be that as I near my 40th birthday I am ripe for a little more color restraint? I don‘t know? No, that can’t be right. It’s just the stately nature of the house, I think. I’ve been listening to it, this last year, and it turns out that rainbows are not its thing. The house is nearly 90, after all. Wink.

Kismet is the perfect fabric collection for our space! It has throwback florals, some exotic-style prints, a few simple geometrics to keep things fresh and that glorious Fleuron print which is simply to die for. If you want to see even more Kismet, flip through this look book. Try not to drool.

The cutting and sewing of the panels for my new patchwork curtains has commenced. I’m so. darn. excited! I’ll be back later this week with a “how to” post in case you want to make your own. I highly, highly recommend it!

xoxo,

Rachel
