Rifle Paper Holiday Classics quilt
This quilt was always a sure thing, and that’s what made it perfect for vacation season. The combination of simple squares patchwork with a Rifle Paper Fabrics co. bundle - what could be easier? It felt good to update my free Penny Patch resources, too.
Ta da, here she is!
Do you know that when I was cutting the fabrics, my husband asked, and I quote, “Are you trying to make a Christmas quilt?” When I affirmed, he said, “Good.” Just so know you what high esteem my skills are held in around here.
I think it might have something to do with the fact that the last Christmas quilt I made, which is now our family Christmas quilt, doesn’t count as “Christmas” according to my teenagers. Apparently if you add pink and grey to red and green, it doesn’t say “Christmas” anymore, despite the inclusion of literal Christmas fabrics. Yep, Aria practically begged me to keep this Rifle Paper one for our family, but I have plans to gift it.
And, besides, WE ALREADY HAVE A CHRISTMAS QUILT! I do insist.
Rifle Paper Fabric Co’s classic colors and the vintage-inspired patchwork are quite charming, I have to agree. I particularly like how the creamy colors and metallic gold elements give it an elegant vibe.
I quilted this Penny Patch quilt with an all-over poinsettia design. It’s large scale enough to keep the quilt soft and cozy, while dense enough to quilt on each small Penny Patch square.
I chose a cream thread color for quilting. It shows off the quilting design on the solid green quilt back.
For binding I used the Festive Stripe print also from the Rifle Paper Holiday Classics collection. This stripe falls longways along the edges of the quilt, not crosswise. At first I was disappointed, but then I noticed how it sort of frames different parts of the quilt with lengths of continuous color - red here, metallic gold there, somehow less busy and yet quite whimsical. I like it!
