Sunbeams + Flutters, follow the warmth

Oooh! I am so excited to show you this next patchwork group for my Positivities quilt. It’s one of my favorites, both because it’s fun to sew and because it’s just plain all around FUN!

First, fabrics. I have used three solids from the quilt’s 9 base solids: Sky teal, Dijon and Peacock. These are Tilda solids, and the colors are so beautifully sophisticated. Peacock is a very special dark blue/teal that is my background color (not pictured here). The rest of the fabrics? Scraps of course!

Personally, I love the cutting stage. Choosing the fabrics and transforming random scrap into just-the-right shapes - it really feels good! Here are all my Sunbeam curves, sitting pretty and ready to be stitched.

I’ve named this block Sunbeam Beauty, since it is related to a New York Beauty block, but then with more of a sunshiny feel. They also look like fans, especially because I’ve accented them with half-square-triangle blocks at the base of each quarter circle.

Add a sprinkling of butterfly “flutter” blocks, and I fall in love. I am looking forward to turning this patchwork group into one of the 3 free bonus quilts for those who join Positivities, my 2024 block-of-the-month club. Sunbeams and Flutters will make a beautiful spring quilt! I am imagining a loose, floaty block setting. It will be modern, but delicate.

So, here it is: the Sunbeams and Flutters group for Positivities quilt. What do you think? Looks like fun, right? It totally was.

I have one more patchwork group to show you next week, and then comes the big reveal of the Positivities quilt design in total.

Registration opens January 3rd. We begin fresh with our first block in January! Click below to stay in the know via email.

As much as I loved sewing this and have enjoyed designing and developing this quilt, I am equally looking forward to sharing the positive messages that connect with each group. My last block-of-the-month had a ballet theme, which emerged naturally from my background with ballet. This time the quilt reflects the current transformative season of my life.

When life turns on its head, you are faced with so many choices and so many feelings. Creativity definitely helps me stay grounded and positivite. Each month we will reflect together on a positive theme. With Sunbeam and Flutters it is about following the warm, the joyful flutters, the sparks in our lives. They are a blessing and a light.

I hope you will join us!

xoxo,

Rachel
