Collaboration, more than the sum
Now that my Positivities quilt is up on my design wall, I have a feeling I will be adding to it each week. It’s just so satisfying to fill in the empty spaces with another group of positive patchwork!
This week I sewed the Collaboration group. Formed with simple squares and rectangles, this group is traditionally pieced and straightforward to sew. As with every Positivities group, I’m using a combination of Tilda solids (the 9 base solid colors noted in the pattern) and scraps from my drawers.
So, yesterday, while the rain poured down, I cut and arranged fabrics, then sewed them together row after row. Before long this simple group was finished and ready to pop up with the rest of the sampler quilt on my wall.
Collaboration is something I need more of in my life. I tend to work alone on meaningful projects because I worry that partnering with others will prove disappointing. The times in my life when I have collaborated with passionate people - as with the homeschool teaching co-op, the production of my book or the making of an improvisational quilt - those have been pretty special experiences. When the energy between people is right, the process and the outcome become more than the sum of its parts. I would love to experience that dynamic with my partner someday.
Now I am off to see what Positivities BOM club members have been sewing! Thanks for posting your photos on Instagram at #PositivitiesQuilt!
Happy weekend!
