Plum Pudding for sale
I make my quilts mainly for love of color and shape and process. When they are finished, I usually sell them. Sometimes I give them away, of course, or have made them for a particular purpose, but usually they are made for the love of patchwork. I like to send them off into the world to brighten someone’s life.
But every once in awhile I keep a quilt instead and tuck it away in my stack of quilts that represent a pivotal moment of my life or my style. Plum Pudding was just such a quilt. I kept it because everything about it is, to me, perfectly delightful. I am still in love with the unexpected deep raisin background color and how it contrasts with the bright, colorful prints.
I adore those fussy-cut XOXO center pieces and the matching binding. That punchy citrine brings out the purple tone in the raisin solid so nicely. And I am also pretty proud of how I quilted it.
The custom-placed circular motif looks so interesting when overlapped. The motif creates a flourish of stitching in the raisin flower petals and a star at the center of the patchwork prints.
The backing is my usual hodgepodge of fabrics on hand. Some of them were used in the quilt top and some were not. It’s very Rachel - practical and playful. I’m glad the backing includes some less-busy prints that really show off the quilting!
But, well, it is time to send this one out into the world as well. When I decided to keep my last quilt, which has a sentimental significance, I knew I would let Plum Pudding go.
She has never been used. She’s just been waiting, waiting. And perhaps now is her time. If you take her home, be sure to appreciate all her very special prints. I didn’t skimp on this one! And remember that life goes full circle from dark to light, from dark to light. So long as we are alive, there is always possibility for joy if we keep our hearts open.
