New Maid quilt top
Happy Monday, friends! Did you have a nice weekend? Get to do some sewing?
I did! This weekend was a nice mix of sweet times with Elora and quiet times to myself, when the beautiful weather drew her outside to play. Mama was happy to play indoors with this inviting stack of springy fabrics! The prints are all pulled from my fabric stash on hand, with a healthy dose of Heather Ross’s sunny style.
Sometimes the simplest combinations create the ideal feeling, like these Heather Ross frogs with lemon yellow polka dots. So sunny, so spring, so fresh!
Before long my design wall was full of Old Maid’s Puzzle blocks. Until this point I had sewn blocks in desirable fabrics and colors without worrying about where they would ultimately land in the quilt. With the last few blocks I have to be more strategic. I want to spread out the colors and the values, and here the design wall is so helpful. It’s a bit of a juggle at the end, as I shift a block here and there until everything feels just right. Then, the last few blocks are ready to be sewn.
My New Maid’s quilt top is complete! She’s a New Maid, because there are no Old Maid’s anymore, I do declare. Today’s women find happiness at all stages of life and in a myriad of unique ways. Here’s to strong women everywhere! We’ve got this puzzle solved.
