in the Quilting Studio, no. 53

Finally I am entering the moving homestretch. I have one week left of “normal life” after which it is time to put everything in boxes, no exceptions. And, gosh, I am really looking forward to reaching that point because the early packing stage is so mentally draining! My quilting studio will also be moving, and I will be without a sewing room for a week while I wait to have access to my business rental. Yes, December should be interesting - - -

Well, you can imagine then how good it feels that I am totally caught up on quilting customer quilts. Plus, that means that I have some pretty things to share with you!

Animal SAMPLER BY YVONNE @PAPIERWERKSTATT

My last finish was this a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e. animal quilt by Yvonne. As you can see, she’s a foundation paper piecing queen! What a charming variety of blocks sewn with paper piecing precision.

I spy an animal farm, complete with cows, pigs, chickens, horses and tractors. And, don’t miss the teeny tiny pinwheel blocks floating about. I recognize those from the Penny Sampler! Yvonne has sewn a few Penny Samplers, and it appears that she’s still off and running with that modern sampler vibe.

Yvonne wanted a soft, open quilting finish. I suggested Cloud, a modern motif which suits the whimsical atmosphere of these blocks.

Postage STamps by Jolene StRatton

Jolene sends me boxes of quilts, usually two a time, without divulging many details in advance. I open her boxes with really no idea what might be inside, since she makes a wide range of quilts from traditional to modern. Well, clearly she’s also a dedicated scrap quilter. Just take a look - - -

So many small squares of all colors and styles! Talk about All Colors In! This is a fantastic catch-all scrap concept.

The quilt is so large that I could barely catch it on camera. And the concept is so simple - postage stamp squares with a simple white floating frame. It’s really so genius, don’t you think? The frame gives the quilt a stylish design, while requiring very little yardage fabric. She really maximized scrap consumption with this one!

Such a simple patchwork style can work with almost any quilting design. We opted for pretty tulips to add another layer of detail. Love it!

Christmas Quilt by Jolene Stratton

Are you singing Christmas Carols yet? It’s almost, almost time! Quilting this one certainly put me in the spirit.

Awwww! What a gift for her family. I love it.

This time the patchwork is the sashing and the solid makes the quilt blocks! Each white block features appliqué and/or embroidered details, creating such a personal touch.

Our choice of quilting motif shows up mainly as stars on the quilt top; while, on the quilt back you can take in the swirly Christmas Doodle in all its glory. Such fun!

I’d be happy to finish your projects with a beautiful quilting texture too. My services are available to those who live throughout the European region. Please be in touch if you have any questions or start the process off by placing your order. I can’t wait to collaborate on YOUR quilt!
