in the Quilting Studio, no. 18
I’m very happy to have more longarm quilting work to share with you today. After the initial shock of the pandemic, my quilting business has gained some momentum. I’m very grateful always, but especially in these unsettling times, to have this work. Thanks to all of you who have in the past or will in the future or may perhaps someday send me a quilt. It’s a joy to be part of your creative process!
Rainbow Trip Around the World by Charlotte Newland
Such a treat to behold this quilt in person. The rainbow deliciousness, scrappy personality and always-satisfying squares - it’s sublime. This glowing trip around the world quilt is made by Charlotte Newland @CharlotteSews.
Charlotte and I agreed on Baptist Fan, a subtle nod to the rainbow itself. The quilting motif gives it an easy-going, modern texture.
I’ll be boxing this one up today, so it can wing its way back to Charlotte in the United Kingdom.

Spring Star by Christine van Boxel
I’ve quilted this patchwork pattern before. It’s the Winter Star quilt pattern by Zen Chic. Christine’s version has happy, spring colors from the Zen Chic Spotted fabric collection, which gives it a whole new look.
I love quilting the large-scale Spirograph pattern. When Christine requested custom quilting, that was my immediate thought. Spirograph puts flowers in the gray corners of the quilt center, which suits the colors of the quilt perfectly.
I think this Cathedral border treatment pairs really well with Spirograph too!
Prism by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic
And speaking of Zen Chic, earlier in the spring I also custom quilted this project for Brigitte.
It’s a big quilt, so I had trouble getting it all in the frame, but you get the idea. The Prism pattern floats these diamond shapes in a generous helping of negative space. Brigitte had a general idea of what she wanted, based on earlier experience with this pattern. With her inspiration, I selected two angular quilting patterns for the quilt center and used an all-over diagonal line texture to fill in the surrounding negative space.
If you like this pattern with these fabrics, you’re in luck. This is the cover quilt for a pattern soon-to-be-released along with Zen Chic’s Quotation fabric line. Quotation is a child of the Comma fabric collection, which was a huge hit back in the day. So fun to see these prints return!
Outback Lattice by Monique van der Meij-Klaver
And before you go, here is one more favorite. This quilt was also custom quilted, though you might not notice at first. The block-style quilt pattern was placed strategically to compliment the patchwork. As a result, the oval points of the quilt pattern fall on the X-shapes of the Outback Wife fabrics. In background fabric areas you see gently curving lines, either vertical or horizontal.
Monique was very pleased with the openness of this quilting - that it creates a soft, cuddly quilt while still enhancing the patchwork. If you’d like to make a quilt in the style, take a look at my free Lattice tutorial.
Well, I’m feeling inspired! I hope you are too. Makes me want to get right back to my own patchwork. I hope you are finding time to be creative, using our hobby to bless others and sooth your soul. If I can help you with Longarm Quilting, feel free to contact me to discuss your project or place an order online. I service quilts throughout the European Union via mail order.
Blessings!
