Starbright Stars: the Quilt top!

Hello October! We’ve arrived at the final week of the Starbright Stars Sew-Along.

You have been machine-piecing these pointy star blocks like a champ, and now it is time to put your beautiful new quilt top together. This is definitely one of my favorite steps in the quilt-making progress because it is so exciting to see how it will look at last. I wish you a smooth and satisfying assembly process!

Week 5: Assembly

It seems that most of you have been joining your blocks into rows as you go, in order to keep things organized. If so, this week’s task is going to be easy peasy. Myself, I had left all the bocks as individual triangle units, so joining blocks took some time - - -

But I did it, and I am loving how it turned out! There is a point during the making of most of my quilts where I second-guess my design choices. With this quilt the wheaty-brown backgrounds felt like a quiet gamble. But now that it’s all sewn together it has exactly that autumn wheat field flavor for which I was aiming. Phew. And yay!

Plus, I have even sewn a backing for her. I wanted to feature this cool “My Favorite Sweater” print from Cotton & Steel. I am a person who lives in sweaters all fall and winter, and this print has long been a favorite. It haven’t wanted to cut it up for patchwork, so using it as a quilt back is perfect.

Now my deliciously seasonal quilt top is hanging by the longarm, awaiting its turn to become a three-dimensional, useful work of art. Finished quilt coming next week!
