Wheat Harvest Starbright Stars quilt
It’s finished! The quilt I made during the Starbright Stars Sew-Along has had her day in the sun at the beautiful Hoge Veluwe park, a nature preserve in The Netherlands.
It’s a place that feels wild. The skies are wide and the forests are peaceful, the silence interrupted only by the calling of birds or the whirring of bicycles along the paths.
And though the wind can be a bit tricky for quilt photographs, it also fills us with vitality.
At one point I asked Elora to help hold the corner of the quilt, hoping for a flat picture. Serendipitously her dress matches the autumnal tones of this quilt perfectly. I like how the sun washes over everything with a golden yellow tint.
So, this is Wheat Harvest Starbright Stars! She shimmers with a warm palette of golden yellow, ochre, rust, plum, scarlet, burgundy and an array of cream, brown and gray. The most showy stars have directional patterns or fussy cut shapes. Some of the stars fade into the wheaty brown background colors, which creates a feeling of complexity and depth.
And I think that the quilt backing turned out great! It is simple, yet bold in color and with such a charming print. I am glad to see that sweater print used in this way.
I quilted this Starbright Stars quilt with a classic - continuous eight quilting. Its swirly texture fits with any decor. She’s bound with a favorite orange floral Anna Maria Horner print, in keeping with the autumnal theme.
Well, that’s another Starbright Stars success. This is a quilt pattern that I really think can’t go wrong. Every one that I have sewn has felt pretty special, and I won't be surprised if I return to this pattern someday yet again. I do so love stars!
Wheat Harvest Starbright Stars is listed today in my Handmades shop. She’s the only quilt available at the moment, so I also offer my thanks for your support of my work now and over the years. Thank you for creating space for me to keep creating!
