which one for My Next Quilt?
I need an easy scrap quilt. You know the kind: fun to sew, no brainer, happy-scrappy palette. I want to be able to just sew and not think about a thing besides how the colors and shapes make me feel. Not even color order this time!
I have gathered a few options for my next quilt. Will you help me choose?
no. 1 - Old Maid’s Puzzle
This loveliness is sewn by Amanda @PrairieQuiltCo. She even has a free block download from her Instagram profile link tree. I like the vibe and the simplicity. The only challenge is that each block takes a good amount of the same fabric. This would only work with my bigger scraps.
no. 2 - Cut Glass
Do you know the proper name for this quilt block? Each block is made up of four HST blocks, usually with value contrast, and set on point. @ValBetweenQuilts finished this beauty in 2019, and I’ve been thinking about it since. I am not sure if I could sew this all in one go, or if I’d get bored, but either way it’s a nice classic.
no. 3 - Coin Quilt
Look no farther than @BlueElephantStitches when brainstorming for a scrap quilt. I love her style! This simple quilt is made up of small, rectangles in coin-like rows. This would work especially well with string scraps, since you could strip piece and then cut.
no. 4 - Crossroads quilt
Every time I see this quilt, I think “YES!” This version by @SewMaryHappy is my favorite. I love that she used scrappy crosses, but consistent center squares. It feels really scrappy and yet cohesive. This would be so easy - - -
no. 5 - Slab Blocks
And lastly, there’s the idea of making slab blocks in a strip style like this one by @AbleMissDesigns. It is improv because the pieces would be of random sizes influenced by the scraps themselves. Each block would finish the same size. I imagine that each block would have its own color scheme and that I’d set them alternating between vertical and horizontal orientations.
Okay, which option gets your vote? I think I will kick this quilt off this weekend, so jump in with your thoughts! And, I don’t mind at all if you share your ideas too, hehe.
