A Colorful Thread: April 2024

Weaving together my life as a maker and other spheres of life.

On My Mind

Experimenting:: with listing a quilt in my Handmades shop, but forgetting to set it as available. Oops! Well that doesn’t work. Lady Quinn quilt has not yet been sold, and now she is available to add to the cart. Fingers crossed she finds a new home after all!

Reading:: the January-February-March issue of Uppercase magazine, which features multicolor art. The luminous pages showcase all types of art, each piece brimming with color. Uppercase is quite a treat.

Celebrating:: Christine @Lopolokko’s mostly-solids version of the Positivities quilt. Her palette is somehow both reckless and constrained. The colors feel light and twinkly, like a spring brook overflowing its banks. The odd bright hue or dark shade adds a beautiful harmony to it all. Check out this fun video to see her fan blocks gradually come together.

Anticipating::  Spring and summer weather! The forecast is looking lovely this week and next, which is great timing for the May school vacation. Elora and Liam are free from school these weeks, and we have some fun outings planned, including a few outdoor adventures. After what has been an extremely wet and dreary winter, the sunshine and warmth are balm for the soul.

How to Choose Batting for your Bed Quilt

Stitched in Color includes a library of free tutorials, more than 10 years in the making. Each month I’ll feature one to spread the good news.

Your batting choice will make a huge impact on how your quilts feels and washes.  Batting can make a quilt feel puffy or flat, heavy or light, warm or just barely-there.

What kind of quilt do you want?

Today I was standing in my sewing room, pressing at my ironing board which is set before a large window. When I looked outside I was awed by how intensely green the world has become. The giant trees that grace the square in front of our home have leafed out abundantly. The grass has turned a vibrant green and all the different rows of bushes and plantings add their own song to the lush melody.

Altogether the sight is so promising and so very inviting. There is so much alive out there! There is so much to embrace and enjoy in our everyday our moments.

May hope spring eternal, may life spring eternal.

xoxo,

Rachel
