A Colorful Thread: October 2019
Weaving together my life as a maker and what’s happening in other spheres of life.

on my Mind
Experimenting:: with having patterns professionally printed! I guess it’s time, eh? I thought it would be nice to bring printed patterns to events like book signings, trunk shows and workshops. I’m testing different binding options and triple checking the templates.
Following:: Irene of Sugaridoo. I recently had the pleasure of meeting this Dutch quilter at a Modern Quilt Guild meeting in Leiden. She’s as friendly and upbeat in person as she is in on her Youtube channel. Thanks for the printer recommendation, Irene!
Reading:: The Quiltmaker’s Gift* by Jeff Brumbeau. Elora and I have been enjoying this picture book, which I used to read to Aria and Liam. It’s a beautifully illustrated story about a quilt maker who makes quilts for those in need and how her quiet work changes the heart of a greedy king. I’m always enchanted by the artist’s quilt drawings, but the elegant message about giving rather than consuming is the real star of this work. *affiliate link
Anticipating:: my first book-signing, next Saturday, November 9th. Details here.
On the topic of my book, I was so sorry to hear from many of you this week that your Amazon preorders are not being delivered yet. Apparently there were not enough books printed in the first run to meet the demand. How very frustrating! A second printing will soon be underway.
I wish I could put a book in your hands today! Maybe as a little consolation, you would enjoy watching a video review of The Quilter’s Field Guide to Color on this episode of Sewcial Sunday. At about 17 minutes in, Sew Sweetness begins her review, which includes flipping through quite a few pages and explaining how the book works. I was super-excited to hear her positive response!
Thanks for reading along, friends. May your homes be filled with warmth and love as the days grow shorter and the holidays gather us in.
