On My Mind

Experimenting:: This weekend I will be sewing masks for Elora and I. When we travel by bus and train next week, we’ll definitely need those. I plan to use Mimi mask pattern which is free in MimiGStyle’s profile highlights. There’s a how-to video as well, for those new to sewing. I’m hoping I can just scale it down and it will fit Elora too?

Reading:: I’m almost finished with Rare Objects, a novel set in depression-era Boston about two women from very different worlds who develop a friendship. Don’t worry, it’s not at all depressing. It’s one of those novels that is both entertaining and gently meaningful. A nice distraction in the evenings.

Endless Summer by Monika Forsberg is in stock now. These bold, colorful florals and interesting animal prints are part of Anna Maria Horner's Conservatory collection for Free Spirit. I suggest you add some solids to the mix to showcase this wild beauty.

Watching:: I rarely highlight a movie or television show, but this one is different. If you like to learn about other cultures and religions, you may enjoy Unorthodox, a 4-episode Netlfix series. It’s set in the present and based on a true story about a Hasidic Jewish American woman who flees from an arranged marriage to chart her own path. Follow-up the moving drama with the Making of Unorthodox, which explains how the producers worked with many sources within the Hasidic community to strive for accurate representation of this culture.

Anticipating:: Getting back to these Concert quilt blocks from the book Quilt Modern Curves & Bold Stripes. All the blocks have arrived from my bee mates, so it’s time to make a few more and put this together!

Warm weather is finally here in The Netherlands. We’re enjoying whole weeks of balmy 70 degree weather, feeling the sun on our skin, splashing in the lake and watching the strawberries ripen in our little garden.

We’ll surely stay close to home this summer, especially as the government discourages use of public transportation for recreation at this time. I’m hoping that July or August will bring an opportunity or two to discover new parts of The Netherlands. I have my eye on a zoo or sea life park. Elora would be amazed by either!

What does your summer look like this year? Staying home means more crafting, eh? Hopefully you’ll still have opportunities to reconnect with family and friends.

xo,

Rachel
