Experimenting:: with quilting upside down clamshells, à la fish scales.
I’m having some fun custom quilting my own Dutch-inspired Penny Sampler. I wanted something ‘fishy” for the bridges and fish block. Not only do these miniature clams look fantastic, they also have a texture that my fingers can’t resist.
Reading:: Instructions for a Heatwave by Maggie O’Farrell. This one was unexpected. This book is a suspenseful novel set in 1970’s London during a historic heatwave. But it’s not about the heatwave at all. It’s a family drama with quite believable characters. The little mysteries and masterful writing pulled me right in.
Following:: @Plantsome. A few months ago a friend gave me a houseplant in congratulations for winning the bid on our new house. It was like a lightbulb went on, “House Plants!!!” I have never been interested in houseplants, but here in my late 30’s they suddenly seem essential. And exciting! And, wow, there are so many lovely houseplants, however shall I choose?
Is this normal? Haha.
Anyhoo, one Dutch plant store has this Instagram feed, which I’ve recently followed. They write their amusing captions in Dutch and then in English, which is a nice way to practice my reading. I’m learning and getting my bearings, before I invest in a few for the new house.

Anticipating:: Starting a new project, of course! This weekend I chose binding for two quilts: Penny Sampler and Super Scrappy Geesey. I’ll be sharing those finishes soon and then something NEW will be coming. Yay!
Good news on the home front - we sold our current house! This time the seller’s market was working in our favor, allowing us to sell a home we’ve lived in for just over a year without losing money. Hooray! Now that the selling phase is complete, we can really relax into a cozy holiday season at home. This weekend, we decorated our Christmas tree.
