Weaving together my life as a maker and other spheres of life.

On My Mind

Experimenting:: with the idea of using Patreon to support my long form blogging and pattern-writing with a stabile income, not dependent upon advertisers. Regular blog content would remain free, but I could offer extras to those who wish to become patrons of Stitched in Color with a monthly pledge. Extras like automatic delivery of new patterns as released, behind-the-scene video content and maybe even a monthly live video chat.

I’m half committed to the idea, still wondering if it’s the right move. Blogging has evolved so much since I started in 2010. I love writing and want to continue with it at the center of my business. I wonder, what kind of content do you appreciate most these days? Fresh feedback would help me sort things out.

Here’s a quick poll to facilitate your feedback. You can also add a comment to this blog post, of course! Thanks So Much for sharing your thoughts!

Reading:: Last night I finished a compelling book titled “Keeping Lucy” by T. Greenwood. This beautifully written page-turner is set in the 1970’s. It’s about a housewife learning to choose for herself and about the rescue of her child with Down syndrome from a facility she was committed to at birth, by her father. Based on true stories.

Celebrating:: a make from @SimplyJesiQuilts. She used my free Tunnel Block tutorial to make this cheery rainbow quilt from scraps. Rainbows in the snow!

Anticipating:: our weekend trip to Giethoorn. At last, I’ll get to see the tulip fields in bloom and visit a famous Dutch town. With covid restrictions, there won’t be many out-of-country tourists at all, so it should be an ideal time for a little touristy trip, now that Brandon has his Dutch driver’s license and we can rent a car again. Yay!

Spring is coming very slowly to The Netherlands this year. I am looking forward to sewing myself a warm-weather top when the weather changes and opening windows for the warm air. Meanwhile, it’s still coats and mittens today.

It seems like a good time to take stock of my business and look ahead to the future. I have a whole list of potential patterns to write. The question is always, “which one next?” If I had a committed Patreon group, I think that would be an ideal way to choose between different quilt patterns and quilt alongs as I plan ahead. As always, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.

Blessings,

Rachel Hauser
