Experimenting:: with new email options for subscribers to Stitched in Color.

Do you usually follow me on Bloglovin? Sadly Bloglovin is not showing my posts anymore. I’ve been trying to resolve this hiccup, but no luck yet. Losing touch with so many readers is a huge bummer. It’s a good reminder that direct email is the surest way to stay connected. With my new email service, you have the choice to subscribe in three different ways:

  • Each New Blog Post - an email each time a new post is published, about 3 times a week

  • Weekly Digest - an email once per week, collating those 3 blog posts

  • Monthly Highlights - an email once per month with the most popular posts and going ons

Current email subscribers will automatically continue with the Each New Blog Post option. If you’d prefer another option, please use the links at the bottom of the Stitched in Color email to edit your subscription. Let me know if there are any snags!

if you’ve tried to subscribe before, but had trouble, I hope you’ll try again. Fingers crossed everything works well with my new provider. Please use the form embedded here.

Reading:: I’ve been reading a lot this summer! How about three recommendations? The Island of Sea Woman - a piece of historical fiction by the talented Lisa See. I enjoyed the story as well as learning about a unique and unfamiliar culture. The Last Thing He Told Me - a total page turner by Laura Dave. Mysterious, but not dark. I Capture the Castle - possibly the most charming book I've ever read. Author Dodie Smith wrote this novel in the 40’s. It has a total fan following, but I only heard of it recently via a reader (THANKS!). This one had me laughing out loud, smiling and surprised. Enjoy!

Celebrating:: Rainbows in flight by @julie_m_roberts. Julie’s Drummer Boy Dresdens quilt is a scrappy masterpiece arranged as a diagonal rainbow blend. There’s something about the color and energy of this photo that inspires me! Since this early August shot, Julie’s made progress and filled her design wall with color (see here). Congrats, Julie. It’s going to be a truly glorious quilt!

Kitten Ash, 3 weeks. Stitched in Color.jpg

Anticipating:: Watching kittens at play!

Three weeks ago our kittens were born - four black kittens, a bit hard to tell apart, but for their different personalities. They’ve been spending August sleeping and eating and growing.

This is Ash, sitting at attention. She has a habit of staring at people. Then there’s Coal who is the most adventurous kitten, but cries if you pick him up. Licorice always sits at the back of the group. Though a shy kitten, she’s the nicest to hold as she doesn’t cry. And Ebony, she has a bit of white on her tale and is otherwise just like Licorice.

They are about to start playing, any day now. Can’t wait!

Ok, August, you did me in. The month started with a long visit from my mother and father in law. So nice to have them here with us in The Netherlands at last, and for Elora to see them in real life for the first time in her memory. Lots of fun had and memories made!

On their last day with us, we went to the Efteling, a fairy tale amusement park for all ages, somewhat like Disney’s Magic Kingdom (with no Disney characters). Such a delight for everyone! We would totally go again to redo our favorite experiences and discover some of the things we didn’t have time to do. The water show at the day’s end was my absolute favorite and also Liam’s. It was a sort of water ballet of fountains, lights and fire set to classical music. Just exquisitely beautiful.

Elora’s first day of school

Now school has started again for all three children. We have our fingers crossed for a normal school year, uninterrupted by corona lockdowns. Elora is thrilled to attend school now five-days-a-week at the school on our square. I feel thankful and energized with the return to routine, especially regular working hours. Here’s to the year ahead!
