Stay Calm + Sew Curves
The other day longtime reader Rosemary Bolton commented that she loves sewing drunkard’s path blocks. And that’s when it hit me - I love sewing curves. I used to be terrified of them. Then when I learned the ins and outs, I felt empowered; however, it was still a high-focus endeavor to piece patchwork curves. Now I feel both relaxed and engaged when I sew this type of patchwork. It requires more attention than straight lines, but the payoff is so cool!
I am sewing eight Sunshowers blocks in total. Each duvet cover will feature a column of four rainbow blocks down the center. These blocks are too big for a double column to fit on top of a twin bed, so one column it is. That’s not a lot of block. I am almost done already.
Today’s latest finished block is now resting at the top of this column. As you can see, I have already chosen fabrics for the remaining two blocks below. Everything is layered on top of a yellow striped duvet cover, which I purchased from Ikea. I will be taking it apart for the quitting phase and then re-assembling it as a duvet cover.
The first column of blocks is complete, and we love it! For these Sunshowers blocks I used two pale pink background fabrics. That creates a tiny bit of unity in an otherwise pretty random color scheme. My second column of blocks will have a subtle pale blue theme.
