A Colorful Thread: March 2021
Weaving together my life as a maker and other spheres of life.

On My Mind
Experimenting:: with sewing curtain grommets. I accidentally bought curtains for our bedroom that are completely the wrong size. Rather than returning them, I’ll cut off the excess length and try to extend the sides. This requires eyelet curtain grommets! After watching this video, I think I can do this and have ordered some plastic grommets. It’s always good to try something new and grow my skills. Fingers crossed.
Maybe after I fix these curtains, I’ll finally be ready to show you around the house? There are still plenty of things that need finishing, so I’ve realized that if I wait until it’s “done” that’ll be sometime this summer, haha!
Reading:: I’ve actually gone through a spell of unsatisfying reads. I keep starting books, but finding them not compelling enough to finish, which is quite an unusual turn of events for me. Perhaps it’s me and not the books. Maybe I’ve been too busy with exciting changes in my real life to sink into a novel. However, I feel like it’s time for a really good bit of fiction. Do you have a recommendation for me?
Celebrating:: I’ve decided to evolve this part of A Colorful Thread from a feature of someone I “follow” on social media to a celebration of something you’ve made with one of my patterns. I like the idea of creating a format to regularly to admire your creations! I’ll pull these photos from hashtags like #StitchedinColor, #StitchedinColorPatterns and those hashtags created for specific patterns and sew-alongs. Yay!
Today I’m celebrating a make from @Stef_andtheFabricPieces. Her Geesey quilt top has a dreamy allure, thanks in part to the limited color scheme and liberal use of solids and near solids. It’s nothing like my own Geesey versions, and I love it so!
The Geesey quilt pattern is available in my pattern shop.
Anticipating:: Buying plants for the house and the garden! This week we’re enjoying balmy spring weather. Trees are bursting into blossom and others are tinted green with leaf buds. I’ve made an appointment to shop this Saturday at our local garden store (all shopping is by appointment, due to Covid).
I want to take all the plants home with me! It’s probably good that I’ll be limited on what I can bring home by the size of our bike trailer, haha.
Today we have our first playdate with a friend in the neighborhood whom Elora met at primary school. It should be extra fun, since we set up our new trampoline (with a safety net) last night after Elora went to bed. I’d like to speak mainly Dutch to the friend’s mother, so fingers crossed for that. The weather is lovely, and I’m grateful that Elora is making friends!
Wishing you the hope and joy of spring, today and this Easter weekend.
Blessings,
Rachel Hauser
