Lacey Geranium Dress
Springtime is the season for sewing little girl dresses. Time flies, and before long my girl won’t be little any more. At this point, when I get the itch to sew her a dress, I can poke around in my sewing room for yardage and come up with something that delights her every time. Gotta make the most of that!
I am pretty dedicated to using fabrics on hand, so this leftover linen/cotton blend by Meenal Patel was calling me. I used the fabric years ago to make Elora a jumper, which has since been passed on to friends. There is plenty more fabric left for a whole dress.
Lace trim (randomly inherited from my mother who doesn’t sew) could give the dress something special. Hmmm - - - at the waist or at the neckline? I decided that trimming the neckline would better suit her straight and simple, girlish figure. After completing the bodice, I added the lace on top and sewed it into the back bodice edge seams.
I opted for hook and eye closure at the back, so as not to spoil the profile with buttons. Curious to see how that works out.
This is the Geranium dress from Made by Rae, which I’ve sewn a billion times. The cap sleeve cut supports the wide lace trim beautifully. Don’t you think she looks sweet?
Well, she is sweet - the sweetest - but she also has spunk. This is how she really wanted to pose today. I had to beg for something more tame to compliment the dress (wink).
In these photos I notice that her hair has a definite reddish tint. The girl has chameleon hair. I still don’t know what color to say it is because it has a mix of light brown, blond and red. So that’s fun!
We managed some lovely pictures, but it was not walk in the park, let me tell you. Haha, she does look ready for a stroll though. Maybe she will wear this dress when we go to the teahouse together at our local park? It looks like a dress perfect for sipping tea.
This is Elora at six years old. She is very proud of the fact that she has lost three teeth, can swim across the pool all by herself and yesterday got a new, bigger bike with gears.
Precious days indeed!
p.s. the next dress should probably be spunkier - - -
