My Designs + a Prize

Happy Friday! We are edging toward the end of the first month for our 30 Days of Quilt Design challenge. Don’t worry, there are sill two months left to rack up 30 designs in total.

I have made some progress with some new designs. Want to see?

Cogs + Stars

I created this one with PreQuilt, using the equilateral triangle layout. The pattern is made with just two blocks. All of the piecing would be simple, straight stitching. I love the effect, but wasn’t so pleased with the colors, so I tweaked and tweaked it until I came up with a new iteration.

I prefer this new color scheme to my original. I think that this design looks best with a touch of black. It adds to the sharpness! It kind of looks like wallpaper though, doesn’t it? I have been shopping for wallpaper lately, haha. It’s on the brain.

Tapestry

I would definitely enjoy sewing this one, perhaps with machine paper piecing for the stars (though they could be traditionally pieced). After coloring it in I can see new possibilities. I could make large diamond background shapes by matching the star backgrounds of neighboring stars. Hmm, interesting maybe? I really love how the plus shapes give it structure. That’s my favorite design detail, so I used consistent coloring for the plus shapes to make them stand out.

Here’s another PreQuilt creation, this time using the on point layout. I notice that when I design with PreQuilt my designs tend to become more clean and graphic. Maybe that’s because it is so easy to reproduce a PreQuilt block and play with how it interacts with its neighbors. I wonder if this is a quilt I would actually sew? What do you think? Does it look like me?
